Endegena Ashenafi is the Country Lead for the UPGI Program in Ethiopia.

Endegena brings over 15 years of experience in development and humanitarian sectors to BRAC. With a proven track record in managing large-scale programs for international NGOs, donor agencies, and governments, he has skills in strategic leadership, team management, resource mobilization, and stakeholder engagement.

He was previously the first Country Director for GiveDirectly in Ethiopia establishing and leading country-level operations from inception. Endegena is adept at building strong partnerships, managing complex programs, and driving results in challenging environments.

Endegena is passionate about poverty alleviation, citizen empowerment, and building strong partnerships for sustainable development. He holds a postgraduate degree in development studies and a Bachelor’s degree in teaching, complemented by certifications in leadership, program management, gender inclusivity, and program design.
